SIBA initiative sees NH/HH Recycling donate to the Lünen branch of the German Children's Hospice Association
'Any diagnosis of a life-shortening disease completely alters the day-to-day lives of the families affected. Medical treatment, nursing and most importantly of all human care are much needed in such circumstances. The DKHV acts as a forum and provides various options for sick children and their families. Outpatients attending the Lünen Children and Adolescent Hospice Services, for example, have access to a team of volunteers who accompany and support families in and around the Lünen area'. This is Martin Gierse, Director of the German Children's Hospice Association (DKHV), outlining the social work that is undertaken by the Hospice Service in Lünen and its parent association based in Olpe. And NH/HH Recycling has been supporting this work with a five thousand euro donation. SIBA is a founding member of the NH/HH Recycling, which was set up at the initiative of some of Germany's largest producers of electric fuse links. For more than 20 years now the non-profit association has been engaged in coordinating the collection and recycling of used safety fuses that contain many valuable materials such as silver. Volker Seefeld, the CEO of NH/HH Recycling, points out that as well as promoting the sustainable management of natural resources the Association has also established an in-house tradition whereby five thousand euros is donated every year to a welfare organisation or citizens' initiative.
This donation is awarded at the annual membership meeting that is hosted by each of the member companies in turn. The organising company is then able to nominate the recipient of that year's annual donation. This year it was SIBA's turn. In the words of Thomas Kubiak, SIBA's Head of Quality and Environmental Protection: 'While we operate on a global basis we are still intensively committed to our ancestral location and production site in Lünen. Because of this we knew about the outpatients' services attached to the Children and Adolescent Hospice, which started in October 2017 in the Old Coffee Roastery on Cappenberger Strasse, and were aware of the work that was being done for families with children suffering from life-shortening diseases.' Specially trained companions support the families in providing comfort and encouragement, but also in practical matters such as when holidays have to be organised. 'It was obvious to us and the Association that in this case our donation is sustaining a really important social commitment.'
