Ultra-rapid fuses: when every tenth of a second counts

Power semiconductors: Without the high-tech developments in the field of converters, thyristors or UPS, today's energy supply would be unthinkable. As important as these devices are, they are also highly sensitive to short-circuit currents.

It is therefore reassuring to know that SIBA makes fuses that work so fast they are able to protect these semiconductors and so keep them working for very much longer. The name of this product range is "Ultra-rapid". They separate your investment from the power supply quickly and reliably. And we have designed them in such a way that even after a long time in service under constantly changing operating loads, they still maintain their condition. For we know that every tenth of a second counts if your semiconductor is to be kept safe from harm ...

Applications

Photovoltaic: Protection for small domestic equipment as well as for big solar farms

From small-scale house installations to large-scale solar power plants, from bungalow rooftops in Germany to American supermarkets, from sports arenas in Asia all the way to self-sufficient systems in rural India. It is a current trend that especially mid-scale PV plants increasingly are using string inverters with rated voltages of 800 V AC and higher. To meet these requirements SIBA has expanded its portfolio.

Battery systems and energy storage:
ideal protection

There will soon be a new standard to address the much stricter requirements that fuses for energy storage and battery systems will be expected to satisfy. SIBA already has a number of products that meet this standard in its portfolio. In addition to its well-known back-up fuses that exclusively provide short-circuit protection, SIBA now also has a new family of full-range fuse inserts that respond to overload currents as well. Both product ranges have rated breaking capacities in excess of 100 kA and so can meet the tough requirements of modern-day battery systems.

Frequency converters used in motor control allow variable speeds, constant torques and gentle starts. A high-quality solution, therefore. And so all the more important to ensure that such investments are properly protected. Our URDC fuses keep your frequency converters safe from harm. And not just them: UPS, power converters and special applications in the field of wind and solar energy are some of the other areas in which these fuses are used.

The renewable energy boom and recent innovations in power electronics mean that more and more components have to be manufactured in large lots. This production method works best when you can easily mount as many components as possible on boards using a fully or semi-automated process. SIBA’s product line of power electronic fuses now includes five body types with soldering pins: from 10 x 30 mm to NH000. They are all easy to install. And are as powerful as always.

Other applications: At home in
many operating classes

Our UR fuses cover the whole range of uses for power semiconductors, starting from classical short-circuit fuses mounted directly on the semiconductor with the back-up operating class, aR, and extending to the full-range operating class gR, which is also able to protect against overload currents, and also to operating class gS, originally introduced by SIBA as operating class gRL. This product protects not only the semiconductor itself, but also the leads. And in doing so, it preserves your investment from harm.
