Increased turnover, equipment protection production set up in Lünen-Wethmar, now a larger site acquired - SIBA continues to grow and makes forward-looking decisions
"As long as electricity needs to be secured, we'll be there," says SIBA Managing Director Michael Schröer. So it's no wonder that electricity, an increasingly important energy source in times of electromobility and the energy transition, is fueling SIBA's growth: the company increased its turnover from 60 to 100 million euros between 2020 and 2022. More orders, more work, more space required: SIBA therefore moved to the Westfalia campus in the Wethmar district of Lünen in April last year and relocated the production of miniature fuses, which are often used to protect sensitive industrial electronics, there. The administrative offices were also becoming too cramped: some of the sales and marketing staff have been working in the former office part of the Volksbank building not far from the main plant for some time now.
Now a big step has been taken towards securing the future: in cooperation with the Lünen Economic Development Agency, it had been looking for a new production site as close as possible to the existing plant for a long time. At the end of January, one was found around 4 kilometers away near the Trianel power plant on Frydagstraße. SIBA initially acquired 19,000 square meters there, the front part of a previously municipal property on which Lünen stored the maize silage for the municipal biogas plant. A production hall is to be built on the almost two-hectare site by the end of 2026 - an investment in the double-digit millions. Here, SIBA plans to manufacture miniature fuses as well as power semiconductor protection. The latter are also in high demand, as they are used in photovoltaic systems or large battery and energy storage systems, for example.
SIBA had already begun to comprehensively modernize its production facilities years ago and had already intensively expanded the existing site - including with robot-supported production of high-voltage fuses. SIBA can offer special products, particularly in the field of renewable energies - from solar power plants and energy storage systems to charging stations and wind turbines - and is growing in this area, partly due to the high demand from the booming countries of South East Asia. With the purchase of the property, SIBA has optimally prepared itself for the increasing global demand for fuses for "renewables", because if the signs point to even more growth, the company can expand further at the Frydagstrasse site it has now purchased. SIBA also has an option to purchase the 25,000 square meters of the rear part of the property.
